Air filters always need to be replaced during a tune-up. But why? The air filter's primary job is to prevent dust and sand from reaching the engine and causing damage to your cylinder walls. It is recommended that your air filter is replaced every 15,000 to 30,000 miles - or even earlier if you drive on unpaved/dusty roads on a regular basis.
